Hydrogen Vent Silencers

Hydrogen is no longer just the future – the first large-scale plants are already pioneering a global transformation.

The challenge: Hydrogen results in extremely high flow velocities – which in turn generate noise. That’s why, in collaboration with partners from science and industry, we’ve developed a new type of silencer specifically designed to meet the unique demands of Hydrogen.

This silencer is based on our proven diffuser technology and specifically engineered to handle the unique properties of hydrogen.

Why Silencers are Essential

The release of hydrogen generates extremely high noise levels.
This noise can:

  • Damage system components through vibrations

  • Endanger personnel

  • Mask critical warning sounds

Without proper silencers, safe hydrogen operation is not possible!

H₂ Micro Silencer

For applications where backpressure in the outlet line is acceptable, our innovative Micro-Diffusers offer the perfect solution. They manage part of the pressure reduction directly within the silencer, providing highly effective noise reduction while keeping product dimensions compact.

Our Micro-Diffusers comply with all relevant pressure equipment regulations, including the EN Pressure Equipment Directive and the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ensuring maximum safety, reliability, and efficiency.

H₂ Purge Silencer

To safely remove unwanted hydrogen from a gas system, regular purging (venting) is necessary. However, this process often generates high noise levels, which are perceived as disruptive.

Our innovative purge silencer effectively reduces this noise, enabling an almost silent purging process — without creating any additional backpressure in the outlet line.

H₂ Inline Silencer

When only minimal backpressure is permissible in the outlet line, noise reduction must be achieved using the absorption principle. This typically requires a larger and heavier silencer that demands additional structural support.

To simplify installation, we offer our Inline Silencer, which can be easily integrated anywhere along the outlet line — enabling a straightforward and highly flexible setup.

H₂ Rain Cap

The H₂-Rain-Cap is equipped with a rain-resistant vent that enables the controlled release of hydrogen after operation.

By minimizing the risk of hydrogen buildup in the silencer, it supports safer operating conditions.

H₂ Lambda Vent
for extreme weather conditions

Our micro silencer, in combination with a lambda vent, provides an effective solution to prevent the ingress of rain, snow, and dust into the blow-off line and silencer, even under extreme weather conditions.

When planning the installation, it should be noted that a portion of the discharged hydrogen may also flow downward. Therefore, careful selection of the installation location is essential.

Silencers for Fuel Cell Systems

We manufacture custom silencers for fuel cell systems.
In doing so, we take into account the maximum allowable pressure in the vent line to ensure reliable protection of sensitive system components.

Even with very low pressure loss limits in the millibar range, our silencers provide effective and safe noise reduction.

Numerous internationally active and renowned system manufacturers rely on our silencing solutions for their fuel cell applications.

Purge Silencers

Glaunach has equipped the world’s first building-integrated hydrogen metal hydride storage system for a residential home with  Hydrogen Silencers. In this system, small amounts of hydrogen are purged at regular intervals. This process is perceived as disturbing by local residents, especially during nighttime hours.

Glaunach Hydrogen Silencers not only meet but exceed even the strictest residential noise regulations.

Silencers for Hydrogen Compressors

Glaunach supplies hydrogen compressor solutions to leading manufacturers worldwide.
Our proven diffuser system has been specifically adapted to meet the unique requirements of hydrogen and further enhanced by the development of a dedicated micro-silencer.

This compact silencer is designed for the controlled venting of small residual amounts of hydrogen and ensures effective noise reduction – even at extremely high pressures.

Silencers for Hydrogen Refueling Stations

Glaunach has supplied silencer solutions to several hydrogen refueling stations worldwide.

We manufacture specialized systems for safety valves (PSVs), bypass lines, and emergency vents, tailored to the specific requirements of modern hydrogen infrastructure.

Our silencers are designed to reliably comply with applicable noise regulations – especially in noise-sensitive urban areas.
They enable safe, controlled, and low-noise pressure relief without impairing the function of safety-related components.

Boil-Off Silencers

Glaunach has extensive practical experience with systems for the transfer and refueling of liquid hydrogen. During this process, typically 2 to 5% of the hydrogen rapidly evaporates (boil-off), making sound-attenuated venting of the system essential.

To meet these demands, Glaunach has developed a specialized boil-off silencer designed to operate safely and reliably under both the extremely low temperatures of cryogenic media and high operating pressures.
